Memorial Scrolls Trust Torah #379

Congregation Beth Israel of the Palisades is honored to house Scroll #379 of the Memorial Scrolls Trust collection of 1,564 Torahs. This scroll came from Zbraslav and was written in the late 19th century

It is on permanent loan from the Memorial Scrolls Trust in London

It serves as a sacred reminder of the 6 million of our people who perished in the Holocaust and as a symbol of the resilience of the Jewish people.

  • For the full story of the 1,564 scrolls recovered from the Nazi horror, please visit MEMORIAL SCOLLS TRUST.
  • Our scroll was obtained in 1986. This is the original letter of intent received by Temple Beth El in North Bergen New Jersey.
  • It was then presented to Rabbi Nissenbaum of Temple Beth El in 1991. Here is the dedicatory plaque describing in detail our Torah.
  • And finally, here is the presentation plaque for the transition to Rabbi Nissenbaum.
  • Our Holocaust Torah stands proudly in our sanctuary with our other Torahs as a reminder that evil in the world can and will be defeated.

On Shabbat, May 11, 2024, we read from the scroll for the first time since it was forced into hiding by the Nazis.

Again, we are deeply honored to be entrusted with the care of this precious scroll.
