Vayetze: "And We Went Out"
Genesis 28:10 - 32:3

Upon his ongoing journey
tracing footsteps across the land Jacob followed the evening sun
welcoming its setting light

A guiding compass toward where he rests

Upon a stone Jacob placed his head
embracing the evening slumber

And as sleep slid before his dreary eyes
a dream danced about his hungry soul

Before him a ladder sprawled from the ground skyward
with legions of angels choreographed to a silent beat

Upwards toward the Heavens
and back down to the Earth below

In a moment standing beside him
was his partner in the dance

And in a single note the L-rd spoke:

"I am the G-d of your father
Abraham and the G-d of Isaac."

The voice faded as the dance again took foot

Sent here to sow the seeds of offspring

Spreading as dust
protecting their journey in time

With generations moving like angels on a ladder

Up and down

Today and tomorrow

This is holy ground

In dreams and as in a day's rising

Jacob awoke with the morning light

Blessed the stone where his head had slept
and followed in step toward the gateway of Heaven
