Va'eira: "Appeared"
Exodus 6:2 - 9:35

There are moments
filled with clues that warn of things to come

Stars to rise with the evening sky
and a rainbow’s promise following a storm

But then there are signs

Whether flying insect in the sky
lowing blood in the river once pure

Each a caress to soften a heart’s ways
illumine a rising dawn to possibility

Of an extended hand of salvation
offered in the vow of freedom

Where Pharaoh or slave

Jew or free

Each seek a path of unchained footsteps
to praise G-d with full and just heart

A fire burning bright upon the horizon of sanctification

As the once condemned man
finds his way with each new breath

Speaking with the fire of his words

From forgotten promises
to unspeakable plagues

Each a toiled brick upon the path toward freedom
