Mishpatim: “Laws”
Exodus 21:1 - 24:18

An eye for an eye

A hand for a hand

Is this how justice prevails?

And when we listen with the soul’s ears

indeed G-d has a voice

From mountain we heeded guidance from the Great I Am

Our way toward truth

Little different than that of the righteous
found within a beat as swift as the heart

And it was there our inner eye focused
when sailing the waves of thought toward decision

Slaves were souls who too drew breath

Farmhands and animals deserved weekly rest

And the land was to be honored

All in praise to the One who gave all things

Each moment

Day and year

Eyes open and hands grasped

As seeds of respect are asked to thrive
into blossoming plants bearing great fruit

Where we pause

And listen

To the rhythmic voice of G-d
