Bemidbar: “In the wilderness”
Numbers 1:1 - 4:20

There in the wilderness

In the shadows of Sinai

G-d continued his exchange with Moses

As so often before
the L-rd asked His faithful servant
to gather His seeking people

And follow once more

Now they were to be counted by tribe
camping beneath sweeping identifying banners

One to the east
another to the west

Allowing Moses to know the numbers of the faithful
as they surrounded him in
the approaching land of the free

And so the servant followed the instructions of G-d

With Levite's near the tent

Following their heavenly ordinations

To guard and protect
the inner sanctum

Where fire came to dwell
among the people’s hopeful hearts

Surrounded by the always willing
and journeying child
