Chukat: "Law"
Numbers 19:1 - 22:1

Again the people were stern in heart
filled with angst before Moses and Aaron

Clamoring they would surely die
in this wasteland beneath their feet

Why was it G-d didn’t care?

Was the answer of water so difficult a question?

Why did it not come?

Why O Moses?

And the brothers fell in prayer
as the L-rd spoke

Telling them to strike their rod upon the rock
that all would again taste the I Am’s wonders

And there
before the eyes of the people

Life-giving waters would flow

Thus upon the rock Moses twice struck the rock

Inviting quenching springs
to satisfy flocks of Israelites and their sheep

Of mothers, fathers

And children

Yet the L-rd spoke to Moses and Aaron
as to why they trusted before

But alas not now

Why strike the rock twice?

Once was all that was asked

And alas the L-rd was not pleased
that His honor was not unveiled
before the longing eyes of His people
