Parashat Vayetze - Jacob's Ladder
Dear Friends,
This week's parasha, Vayetze, includes the famous vision from Jacob's dream, a ladder stretching from the ground up to the heavens, with angels going up and down the ladder.
In a great example of how Torah and the canon of Jewish holy books continue to inspire today's artists, this portion always makes me think of the song "Jacob's Ladder" by the incredibly talented Huey Lewis and his band from the 1980's the News.
The lyrics at the end of the song are particularly meaningful, and essentially Jewish: "All I want from tomorrow / is to get it better than today. / Step by step, one by one, / higher and higher...climbing Jacob's ladder."
