Rabbi Eric Wasser is the spiritual leader of Congregation Beth Israel of the Palisades. Rabbi Wasser has an extensive academic biography and brings his many talents as rabbi, hazzan (cantor), mohel, and teacher to our community.

After moving from Toronto, Rabbi Wasser received his investment as Hazzan and a Master's degree in education from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. While serving Beth Hillel, a leading Conservative congregation in Chicago, Rabbi Wasser spent a Sabbatical year in Israel to study and become a Certified Mohel under the auspices of the Chief Rabbinate. In Jerusalem, he studied the ancient ritual of brit milah under the guidance of Rabbi Yosef Halperin, of blessed memory.

Upon returning to the United States, Rabbi Wasser earned a fellowship at the William Davidson School of Education and completed his doctoral studies while researching the confluence of ritual theory and pedagogic practice in the performance of life-cycle rituals. After completing his doctorate, Rabbi Eric completed his rabbinical studies at the Mesivta Wolkowilsk in Queens, New York.

Rabbi Wasser is a passionate and enthusiastic clergyman, who loves teaching and engaging with the community through interesting and unique programs. Rabbi Wasser leads outreach efforts for the synagogue and fashions himself as our "Rabbi on Call". Rabbi Wasser is warm, friendly, and helps the members of our community to experience Judaism in a way that is meaningful to them.
